The Future – the Self-Service Data Warehouse
Author: Philipp Lenz, Data Warehouse Architect
What does the Data Warehouse look like at XXXLdigital?
We develop and manage the central warehouse for the entire XXXLutz Group. Here, we closely collaborate with our internal customers in order to quickly and reliably provide a valid database at any time. The data warehouse platform entails standardised analyses as reports and dashboards. Our core tasks include the provision and preparation of information in a timely, appropriate and audience-targeted manner. In doing so, we create and maintain a central information system with flexible browser access, automation and a self-service component.
The future
As mentioned above, our team provides the XXXLutz Group specialist departments with modern applications and the data/information required for daily business. Unfortunately, this does not always suffice for in-depth or one-time and/or just-in-time analyses, which might also extend into artificial intelligence (AI), for example.
To improve our service, we closely collaborate with business intelligence as well as the AI department and discuss and develop the requirements and suitable solutions together with the specialist departments. To do so, we provide the specialist departments with parts of our data warehouse, taking into account the valid internal as well as legal requirements and provisions. As it is sometimes difficult to grasp the data and models right away, we offer both specialist documentation (as data catalogues) and personal support as well as training. Accordingly, the specialist department is able to create analyses on its own using cutting-edge technology such as Microsoft Power BI, and questions can quickly and easily be answered. In addition, existing and verified key figures are made available.
Utilising technology such as Microsoft Power BI and the self-service DWH, we enable the specialist departments to create, process and visualise the required analyses in an efficient manner and on a just-in-time basis.
